Challenges, reflections, and growth insights in the job transition from hardness testing to process control

When first stepping into the position, one harbors a yearning in the heart

Time flies like an arrow. Before I knew it, I had spent 15 months in the hardness testing position. In this long and fulfilling period, the last few months were especially special. During that time, I was like a shrewd time manager, trying every means to squeeze time from my daily work and fully immersing myself in learning about all the jobs and skills in the quality assurance department.

I still remember that when I was an inspector, I was full of curiosity and admiration for the process control position. In the foundry workshop, the people in the process control position were like generals with overall plans in mind, seemingly omnipotent. He held the power of quality control over the entire foundry workshop. With just one word, the production line could stop running immediately. His imposing manner really left a deep impression on me. However, what attracted me was not just this "arrogant air". More importantly, it was the attractive salary of this position. An income of about 900 - 1100 yuan per month was like a glittering treasure to me at that time, becoming a powerful motivation for me to learn the skills of other positions.

Seize the opportunity and be transferred to a new position

Time quietly arrived at 2002, and the company reached an important development milestone - the expansion of the third fully automated production line. The completion of the new production line meant that suitable personnel were needed to take on the work there. Before the trial run of the new production line, I began to conduct an in - depth analysis of the personnel situation in the Quality Assurance Department. I thought it over carefully from all angles, considered every possible person who might be suitable for the process work on the new line, and also had an in - depth discussion with a colleague. Fortunately, I found that I was also among the suitable candidates.

With such an understanding, a strong impulse welled up in my heart. After a mental struggle, I summoned unprecedented courage and took the initiative to approach the section chief. I sincerely expressed my willingness to work on process control on the new production line. I explained my reasons to the section chief and emphasized that I was capable of handling 80% of the quality assurance work. Perhaps my sincerity and self - confidence impressed the leaders. After their investigation and confirmation, I finally got transferred to the new line as I wished and embarked on my journey in process control work.

This incident made me deeply realize that in life and work, people must have pursuits, ideals, goals, and plans. An ideal is like a bright lamp, illuminating the path ahead for us; a goal is the direction of our progress, preventing us from losing ourselves; and a plan is the specific step to achieve the goal, helping us move forward in an orderly manner. Meanwhile, opportunities are always reserved for those who are prepared. Only by constantly improving ourselves and making full preparations can we firmly seize the opportunities when they come.

Facing challenges in a new position, one is under heavy pressure

I was transferred to work on the new line around December. It was a bitterly cold winter. And this winter became even colder because of the process control position I chose. At that time, there were 4 - 5 quality personnel in each shift. The process control position was not only responsible for the work management and deployment of these personnel, but also shouldered the heavy responsibility of communicating with on - site personnel and handling various quality problems. More importantly, I was facing the production section chief while I was just an ordinary employee.

The pressure of this job far exceeds my imagination. The daily workload is incredibly huge. I seem to be enveloped by a giant pressure dome and can hardly breathe. I not only have to manage the quality staff to ensure their work is efficient and orderly, but also communicate closely with the on - site personnel to solve quality problems in a timely manner. Working 8 hours a day can no longer be simply described as "tired". After getting home, I collapse on the bed exhausted. I thought I could have a good sleep, but unexpectedly, my dreams are all filled with work scenarios. Now it's this colleague coming to me to solve problems, and then that colleague reporting situations to me; there's a fierce dispute between the quality and production departments over standards; and there are also large batches of defective products appearing on the production line from time to time... These nightmares make me restless even in my sleep, and I'm often startled awake. After waking up, I'll immediately pick up the phone and ask the person taking over if these things really happened. The tense and anxious feeling is still vivid in my memory to this day.

Lack of experience and encountering difficulties

I actively sought this position myself. At that time, I was full of confidence and thought my abilities were sufficient to handle the job responsibilities of process control. However, reality gave me a heavy blow. Once, after the production line workers changed the product, they didn't submit the first piece for confirmation in time. When I learned about this situation, I got extremely angry and rushed to them to argue. I seriously warned them that if they didn't submit the first piece for confirmation in time, I would shut down their production line, as they had production targets after all. Maybe my tough attitude worked. Within less than ten minutes, they sent the first piece to my office.

After receiving the first piece, I immediately plunged into the intense confirmation work, carefully checking various experiments and performance tests. However, when it came to the step of sawing the test block, a problem emerged. The casting was extremely hard, and it couldn't be sawn no matter how many saw blades were changed. This really stumped me. I immediately judged that the first piece was abnormal, and resolutely issued an instruction to stop production, and asked them to produce other products.

The next day, I submitted the first finished piece to the leader for confirmation, and the result really shocked me. It turned out that the workers had thrown the red-hot castings into water for quenching, which led to a significant increase in hardness. The data obtained after the hardness test didn't even have a corresponding value in the data table. After learning this result, I was extremely angry and went straight to the production section chief to argue. Unexpectedly, the section chief flatly denied that they had done such a thing. At that moment, I felt like a helpless warrior who couldn't make others understand the truth, filled with helplessness and grievance inside.

After this incident, I conducted a profound self - reflection. I realized that the main reasons for my being in such a difficult situation were mainly due to lack of experience and problems in communication. When communicating with the production line employees, I didn't delve deeply into their work processes and actual situations. Instead, I just made tough demands blindly, which led to conflicts between us. Meanwhile, I also lacked sufficient experience in handling problems and didn't take into account all possible situations. Since then, I swore that I must make them never dare to treat me like this again. So, I began to constantly accumulate experience and improve my communication style and problem - handling methods. As time passed, I gradually grew up and also won the respect of everyone.

Due to industry changes, a turning point emerges in the heart

In 2003, the domestic foundry industry entered a period of vigorous development, just like flowers blooming everywhere in spring. In this favorable situation, many people in the company chose to resign and went to new units. Their salaries were basically around 3,000 - 4,000 yuan. Seeing the better development and higher incomes of people around me, I was greatly touched inside. At this time, the unit I was working for never gave me a raise, which made me have the idea of changing my job.

The emergence of this thought is like a stone thrown into a calm lake, breaking the calmness of my original work and life and bringing a new turn to my quality career. This also makes me understand that on the journey of life, we should always pay attention to the changes and development trends in the industry and adjust our career plans according to the actual situation. At the same time, we should also continuously improve our own abilities to adapt to the ever-changing environment so that we can achieve better development in our careers.

Personal insights, growth maxims

Through this work experience, I have had many profound insights. First of all, whether it is going to work, living, or running a business, we must have clear goals and formulate detailed plans to achieve these goals, and then implement them unswervingly. We must not act like headless flies and rush around blindly, nor be like the grass on the wall that sways with the wind, let alone be like the monk who just goes through the motions. Only by clarifying our goals, formulating reasonable plans, and taking action can we move towards success step by step.

Secondly, we should never overestimate our own abilities at any time. Confucius said, "When three people walk together, there must be one who can be my teacher." There is always someone better, and there is always a greater world beyond. Everyone around us may have something worthy of our learning. We should always maintain a spirit of modesty and a thirst for knowledge, and learn from others with an open mind to continuously improve ourselves. Only in this way can we make continuous progress and grow constantly.

Finally, torture, blows, and pressure are not misfortunes for us but opportunities for growth. As the saying goes, "Turn grief into strength." We should transform the spurs from others into our own growth experiences and use them as stepping - stones to success. Maybe we'll feel extremely painful at that time, but when we look back on the past, we'll find that these experiences have become the most precious treasures in our lives, making us stronger and more mature.
