The closing meeting of the DVT phase of the new project confronts problems and challenges and demonstrates the risk management and control capabilities.

Meeting tasks and temporary challenges on the closing day of the DVT phase for the new project

Today is the last day of the DVT (Design Verification Test) phase of the new project. As the most critical verification step before mass production, the conclusion of DVT means that we need to conduct a "closed-loop summary" of the design, process, and component verification results over the past few weeks. According to the process, a DVT closing meeting must be held today. The core objective is to share the list of all unresolved issues with the customer and ensure that both parties reach an agreement on the risks, impacts, and solution paths in the verification - this is the prerequisite for advancing to the next PP (Pilot Production) phase.

The core agenda of the meeting: Report on all-dimensional issues

What customers are most concerned about is "whether the risks exposed during the verification process will affect the feasibility of mass production". Therefore, the meeting needs to focus on three major categories of key issues:

Raw material issues: For example, the material properties of some parts do not meet the specifications (such as insufficient temperature resistance of plastic parts and failure in the hardness test of metal parts), the interruption of verification due to delayed delivery from suppliers, or the consistency deviation between material batches. These issues directly determine whether the parts can meet the functional requirements of the product.

Manufacturing process issues: For example, the shrinkage mark rate of the injection molding process exceeds the standard, the defective rate of false soldering in SMT (Surface Mount Technology) is too high, or there are interference problems in the assembly process. This type of problem will affect the production capacity and yield rate during mass production.

Fixture tool problems: For example, the positioning accuracy deviation of CNC machining fixtures (leading to out-of-tolerance part dimensions), the wear and deformation of assembly fixtures (affecting product consistency), or the excessively long fixture switching time (slowing down the verification progress) - Fixtures are the foundation for ensuring production stability, and their problems will amplify the fluctuation risks in subsequent mass production.

Temporary adjustment of the reporting division of labor: Take over the issue of MLB parts and materials

The supervisor originally responsible for reporting raw material issues has taken temporary leave due to personal affairs. I need to urgently take over his task - focusing on reporting the material issues of MLB (Main Logic Board) parts. The MLB is the "brain" of the product. Its material issues (such as the deviation of the dielectric constant of the PCB board and the insufficient compatibility of the packaging materials of components) directly affect the electrical performance and reliability of the product, and are the core risk points that customers definitely pay attention to.

Preparation and Key Principles for English Presentations

Since it's a report to international clients, the accuracy and logic of English expressions are crucial. I need to do three things in advance:

  1. Data visualization: Organize the specific data of MLB material issues (such as the proportion of defective rates, parameter deviation values in test reports, and feedback records from suppliers), and replace vague descriptions with "quantified results".

  2. Terminology standardization: Confirm the English equivalents of professional terms in materials science (e.g., use "dielectric constant" for "" and "solderability" for "") to avoid translation ambiguities.

  3. Structure clarification: Organize the content according to the logic of "problem description → scope of influence → temporary measures → long - term solution → timeline" to enable customers to quickly grasp the key points. For example, regarding the problem of the excessive dielectric constant of the PCB board in MLB, it is necessary to state that "currently 20% of the samples cannot pass the signal transmission test", "temporarily use materials from alternative suppliers to ensure the continuation of verification", and "the supplier will submit an improved material plan within 3 days".

The ultimate goal of the meeting: to convey the confidence in solving problems

For customers, "the problem itself" is not the most terrifying thing. What's truly scary is the lack of a solution path. Therefore, in my report, I should not only "list the problems" but also "provide the answers." For example, regarding the MLB material issue, I need to clearly tell the customer that "we have identified the root cause of the problem (the adjustment of the supplier's material formula)," "the temporary solution can meet the verification requirements," and "the long - term solution will be verified next week." Only in this way can we make the customer believe that we have the ability to resolve the risks in DVT and smoothly proceed to the mass - production stage.

In essence, today's meeting is not about "exposing problems" but about "demonstrating the team's risk management and control capabilities" — this is the core significance of the DVT closure.
